School size

The school has 11 classrooms in one building with administrative and social facilities. The building is located on the hill of the Náchod Castle in the Plhov district and is a 10-minute walk from the center. The train and bus stations are 10 minutes away. The canteen of the Secondary School of Construction and Business Academy, architect Jan Letzel in Raisova street is used for catering. There is also a gym on this street.

School equipment

The school has 6 main classes, 3 specialist classrooms and 2 classrooms for working in groups. All classes are equipped with didactic equipment with built-in data projectors. The Internet is available in all classes, meeting rooms, offices and in the corridor with free access. One specialized classroom is multifunctional, where, in addition to school desks, there are 17 computers used for regular teaching. Pupils have access to 34 computers including the Internet, each teacher has his own laptop. One specialist classroom is equipped for laboratory exercises in physics, chemistry and biology. The classroom for information and communication technology is equipped with 17 computers with a reserve for the connection of additional computers – laptops and the inclusion of disabled students. The school also owns „mobile classrooms“ containing 2 sets of twenty laptops for portable use in all classes and subjects. The school building has barrier-free access.

Characteristics of the teaching staff

Teaching is conducted by approved and qualified teachers. As far as possible, the school tries to use native speakers or volunteers from abroad who work as interns in schools in the Czech Republic in foreign language classes. They are provided by SVČ Déčko Náchod for the Náchod region and the school uses them to implement language literacy.

Teachers are fully involved in international projects and in district, regional and national competitions. The school provides a system of specialization of pedagogues to provide counseling services in cooperation with the school counseling facility:

  • in the field of educational counseling using cooperation with the labor office, pedagogical-psychological consultancy, universities and other institutions,
  • to work with pupils with special educational needs (including specialization in foreign languages)
  • for counseling in the area of negative social phenomena, where contacts with the anti-drug center in Náchod and professional psychologists are used,
  • to work with gifted students

Long-term projects

Long-term projects organized by the school include:

  • „UNESCO Schools Week“, annual preparation of workshops, exhibitions, lectures, presentations of student works on a topic given by the UNESCO Secretariat in the Czech Republic.
  • The school is a UNESCO associated school (ASPnet UNESCO). He participates in the processing of projects and compliance with the goals set by the statutes of both organizations. For his work with students on projects. The school received the title „School of Sustainable Development“ in 2005
  • The school provides students with module programs – short-term projects, JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT organizations, which prepare students for reality in practice.

International cooperation

The school has long-term experience with international projects since 1994. The first cooperation was with Warrington University College in the field of tourism and post-secondary studies. From 1997 to 2000, our students participated in monthly internships within the framework of the Leonardo da Vinci program, twice in England and once in Spain. The school also cooperated with the organization TANDEM and in Germany Bildungsprofis.

As part of the COMENIUS projects, teachers and students took part in partner meetings and prepared presentations of the outputs of the given projects. The project partners were schools in Ireland, France, Austria, Germany, Holland and Slovakia. In 2008, a meeting of all partner schools took place here in Náchod.

As a UNESCO associated school, we participated in the MONDIALOGO program, when the secretariat in Paris designated our school partners from the countries of Trinidad and Tobago, the Dominican Republic and Vietnam.

As part of UNESCO activities, our school had the opportunity to represent the Czech Republic in Ukraine – in Vinytsia at an international conference (2 students + a teacher), all participants had to present our traditions, culture and education system in English. In Norway, our pupils took part in saving the cultural monument of the mining town of Róros (2 pupils), in Greece pupils presented the work of Czech schools on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition of UNESCO monuments in the Czech Republic at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens (5 pupils + a teacher) in the presence of Senator Moserová and ambassador of the Czech Republic.

Our school has a partner school in the Netherlands: Gymnazium CSG Wilem van Oranje in Oud-Beijerland.

Cooperation with parents and other entities

School Board:

  • Mgr. Judita Jirásková Galbová (elected as a representative of the teaching staff)
  • Dagmar Uhnavá (elected as representative of pupils and legal representatives of pupils)

Parents and legal representatives of pupils cooperate with the school management through regular meetings, where they get information and can influence what happens in the school. School management and teachers cooperate with parents or legal representatives individually as needed.

There is very good cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce in Náchod, where entrepreneurs and the branch management help with competitions of student companies, the establishment of companies and their management. They provide consultancy in management and marketing education.

The school cooperates with many entities in the Czech Republic in the field of tourism, where students can carry out their internships or provide the school with professional excursions as part of the fulfillment of UNESCO’s goals. They are important castles and chateaux (e.g. Karlštejn, Kynžvart, Bečov nad Teplou, Horšovský Týn……), hotels and cultural and sports centers.

As part of the prevention of socially pathological phenomena, the school cooperates with the Pedagogical-Psychological Counseling Center in Náchod.

Every year, the public is informed about the past school year through the Annual Report, which maps the most important events of the past school year.
